Velvet Tights, What to wear on top or over [M]

"Shadowboxer" <shadowbo...@nospam.mac.com>
Hey all,
I'd like to know your opinions on what to wear as a top or even bottom over
and with Black velvet tights/jazz–pants.
I wear t–shirts normally, but they just don't always look right, and a
button down shirt looks downright goofy.
Anybody have any ideas on what to wear with these, especially since I am not
dreessing as a woman.
P.S. What sort of shoes or boots would you recommend?
thanks –J

I think that if there were any brilliant ideas lurking in the minds of
a.f.ers they would have been happy to share.
I'm no good at all as the only thing I picture is something like a poet's
shirt, with an all–around swashbuckling effect...very Errol Flynn or
something like that. Definitely not a look I'm used to seeing on the
streets of upstate NY.

I had in mind something long and dark and filmy, with velvet–edged sleeves,
maybe hooded, with little silver bells at the ends of the ties. It'd be
translucent enough to show off a close–fitting lace cami. If elf boots are a
real style they'd coordinate nicely.

Hmmm, what about a Nehru (sp?) jacket or some kind of asian–inspired
tunic–type top? I think that would be interesting. I don't have any shoe
suggestions, though – maybe low boots?

if you are trying to figure out a viable way to wear tights outside of the
gym, look up representations of designers jean paul gaultier, thierry mugler
and stylist ray petrie's tights looks for men from the 80s.
think matador, crimefighter, supervillain, athlete, macho man.
in the name of good taste:
skip the velvet unless you're going to a renaissance fair.
only wear black, grey and midnight blue.
(no forest green or burgundy!)
nowadays, a high–tech or sporty look is best.
wear low–sheen, heavier nylon or acetate blend lycra tights.
wear a thong, dancebelt, snug boxer–briefs or nothing (if you are a stone–cold
pro) underneath
....no briefs, please (no one needs to see your vpl).
wear sneakers, slides or thick–soled hiking/combat boots – desert boots, if
you must go more formal.
unless you want to look like an elf or a pirate, tights' legs should go
*over*, not *tucked inside* of boots.
( a very subtle boot–cut bell is a newer look.)
on top, wear a waist–length turtleneck, v–neck or crew tee shirt or hooded
sweatshirt pullover or zip–front.
nylon is better than cotton.
if you can't go sporty and must be formal, the nehru jacket is a good idea.
classic black or grey nylon bomber jackets and simple, nylon shells look best
with tights.
no blazers, ever!
no tube socks!
if every man followed these rules when wearing tights (!), lycra for men could
come back into style for real.
