Sock color with jeans

I'm trying to upgrade my image a little bit. I gave up white sneakers
2 years ago and switched to some brown Timberlake hiking shoes. I
normally wear jeans to work and white socks with those shoes. I have
plenty of other colored socks that I wear when I'm wearing slacks, but
they don't seem comfortable enough with my normal shoes.
So, what kind of socks should I be wearing? What color? If it
matters, sometimes I wear t–shirts with the jeans and sometimes I wear
polo shirts.

The "socks–must–match–pant–color" rule doesn't apply to jeans. 2 years ago and switched to some brown Timberlake hiking shoes. I
