earrings on boys

jamie...@hotmail.com (Jamie Johnson)
Charlie,
I have to disagree with you on this one. We as a society need to
achieve gender equality. Women purchase and wear items from men's
fashion all of the time. What is the difference between a boy wearing
earrings and a girl wearing earrings? There is really is no
difference. The dilema that some people face come from the artificial
restrictions that society has placed by boys such as:
Boys don't cry, Boys don't play with girls toys, Boys don't wear girls
clothing ... etc. This is the problem!!! On the other hand, girls are
encouraged to explore pursuits that are normally associated with boys
including boys clothing and male dominated sports. Can you say "Double
Standard"?
This problem originated at the beginning of the 20th century during
the industrial revolution. During the days of our forefathers, men
wore feminine items such as makeup, high heeled shoes and other items.
In order to achieve true equality in society, we need to achieve
fashion equality for men and women.
I believe that the correct answer is that if the boy wants to wear
earrings then it should be his choice. This situation should not be
handled any different than if the child is a girl. The parents should
be supportive and have the boy's ears pierced and buy him the style of
earrings that he wants to wear.
Also, it is my opinion that one earrings does not look good on
anyone!! Earrings come in pairs. I cannot understand why anyone would
want ot wear only one earring!!
